Champions on Netflix

Just started watching Campions on Netflix, I'm on EP 3 and I already see a lot to unpack.

I will begin with where I just paused: Vita meeting Mark in his studio/office right after her (should I call her Ex-girlfriend) just cussed her out over the phone.

Ex-girlfriend (or soon to be) Honey, has just found out (even before Vita), that a song Vita wrote for both of them, has just been released as a single on air.

Now, while this might not seem like a big issue to some of us, it might be more honest of me to go back a bit and capture a wider range of recent happenings in the Vita/Honey world.

Vita is a singer/songwriter who has been working for her brother(a Rap artist). He is the star everyone knows, but his songs have all been written by his little sister(well ... not so little really)

Vita. She has also double and tripled as his manager of sorts, psychotherapist (he seems to have a panic disorder) as well as his coach. This is her job along with working in her mom's restaurant.

Vita has just asked her brother to promote her to be his actual Manager, since she does all the work anyway, but he disappoints her and treats her as nothing as he calls his current manager into

An important meeting, while excluding her.

Vita's secret boyfriend does not understand why she would want to be his manager. He believes she's bigger than that and should do her own thing, get her own gig going. But you know how it

Happens when you get so used to propping others up for the center stage: You forget the light is really you.

Vita brushes it off with very vocal words of loyalty to her brother and family. This is her task, to prop her brother up while taking none of nor being given any of the credit.

Enter her friend Honey.

Honey reaches out to her (or was it the other way round) and invites her over to a studio session. Honey has informed the main artist she has a friend and both their voices is what his record needs.

Vita is sort of cornered because the artist is a well known rival of her brother's. But she is mad at him and is doing nothing at the moment, so might as well try this out.

Honey and Vita both go into the recording booth, strap in and begin singing. Vita stands out almost immediately. Her voice, the loveliness of it, the fact she remembered all of the lyrics, her

Fearlessness as she ad libs beautifully - stands out. Honey is NOT pleased. How dare Vita do better than her, how dare she not forget the lyrics like she did? How dare she be on a different level vocally?

Loooool - well well well. The main artists manager says its Vita he wants. Honey retorts they are a package. The manager reiterates he only wants Vita. So, the rift begins.

Friendships formed under lack and sob stories might seem very strong, until one person no longer has sob stories to share. This is called trauma-bonding.

Once one of the individuals involved HEAL and inevitably moves on from the pain and hurt, a rift occurs in the seemingly "friend for life" union.

Vita was asked to sing one of her creations in that studio, and she sang the song had written for both herself and Honey. It wasn't meant to have been released. It wasn't even meant to be anything.

The record label manager though it was too good and released it. Now, whatever hope she had of keeping her relationship with Honey, is gone.

Honey is furious, and I have seen this too many times to know that in these situations, no explanation can repair or calm the other party down. They are not offended, they are JEALOUS.

Jealousy does not reason.

Its ok to realize that a friend is no longer a friend.

Its ok to realize that a friendship has come to an end.
